Manuscript Formatting
Please note that I am currently unable to accept manuscripts, in full or for the free sample edit, via email or as email attachments. For services that require changes to be made directly to a manuscript (see Services & Fees) a floppy disk, zip disc, or CD-Rom should accompany a hardcopy of the submission, Electronic copies should be in the form of an MS Word or compatible format.
All manuscripts should include the work in its entirety, as much as possible. This includes the title page, table of contents, any acknowledgments, copyright information, sources, bibliography, figures/illustrations, footnotes, endnotes, etc., whenever applicable.
Manuscripts should be printed or typed on standard size paper (white, 8 ½" by 11"), double spaced, and on one side of the page only. Margins for text should be 1" or 1.25" (1 ¼"). Right margins should not be justified. Margins for headers or footers should be 0.5" (½") from top or bottom of the page. A standard, 12 point font should be used, such as Times New Roman, Courier, or Arial. No WordArt or decorative fonts should be used.
The title of the piece, the author's name and contact information, and word and page count should appear on the title page of the piece. All subsequent pages of the manuscript should be numbered, and if possible, marked with the last name of the writer/author and the title of the piece, or abbreviation of the title. If page numbers appear out of sequence, for purposes of ordering chapters or other reasons, that is fine. Just make a note in the cover letter, so I can be sure to keep the pages and chapters in the order in which I received them.
All formatting guidelines apply to the free sample edit. The title page and cover letter are not included in the five pages of manuscript that may be submitted.
